Dr. Elizabeth McMurtrie MS, VMD

Dr. Elizabeth McMurtrie MS, VMD

Dr. McMurtrie established Spring House Animal Hospital in 2001 with the goal of providing the level of care she gives to her own animals. She graduated from Villanova University with a BS and MS in biology. In 1990, she completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at The Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. In 1998, she completed an oncology residency at The Oncology Center in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Shortly after, she passed the necessary requirements to become a Diplomate of The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners®, Canine and Feline Medicine and Surgery. When she is not at the office, she enjoys running, gardening, cooking, and walks with her husband, Jim, and their Norfolk Terriers.


Dr. Cohen

Dr. Cohen, VMD

In 2015, Dr. Cohen joined the team as an associate veterinarian. She grew up in Blue Bell and is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Maryland. Her interests include preventative medicine, emergency medicine, and dentistry. Certified in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture, she also enjoys providing acupuncture and pain management to animals in a holistic manner. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, and running. She is a fan of the Philadelphia Philies™ and the Maryland Terrapins™.


Theresa Herbers

Theresa Herbers, DVM

Dr. Theresa Herbers joined the hospital as an associate veterinarian in 2016. A native of Kansas City, she completed her veterinary degree in her home state at the University of Missouri. She pursued an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Minnesota, then spent her first seven years of practice at a small animal hospital in northern Illinois. She moved to the Philadelphia area to be closer to family. Her interests include behavior, surgery, pain management, and fear-free practice. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her dogs Juno and Daphne, reading, exploring the natural areas around the city, and amateur cooking.


Sarah Frankel, DVM

Sarah Frankel, DVM

Dr. Sarah Frankel joined our team as an associate veterinarian in 2015. Originally from Chicago, she earned her bachelor's degree in Biology and Spanish from the University of Michigan. In 2014, she received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University. She went on to complete a small animal rotating internship at the Center for Animal Referral and Emergency Services (CARES) in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Growing up, she had a passionate love for animals and science and always felt called to the veterinary profession. She enjoys being able to make animals feel better when ill, and her special interests include dentistry and soft tissue surgery. Outside of work, Dr. Frankel enjoys playing soccer, traveling, and attending concerts. She also spends time cooking and with friends and family. An avid Chicago sports fan, Dr. Frankel lives in Philadelphia with her rescue dog, Cyrus.


James L. Romann

James L. Romann is the financial principal at our hospital and a friendly and calming voice to many of our customers. He holds a BBA from Southern Methodist University in Texas and an MBA from the University of North Texas. In 2001, he and his wife, Dr. Elizabeth McMurtrie, established Spring House Animal Hospital. Since then, he has been the friendly face that will greet you and your animals at our hospital.


Noelle Risell

For more than five years, Noelle Risell has worked for Dr. McMurtrie as an office staff member. Her empathetic nature helps her to provide excellent care to both clients and their pets. She has nearly 30 years of experience working in the veterinary field and strives to answer any question that arises. She also visits hospice patients and has implemented a reading program at a local elementary school where she volunteers with her therapy dog, Tate. Noelle shares her home with her husband and four children. She also has two Golden Retrievers, three cats, and often hosts other orphaned or injured animals.


Adrienne Flynn, CVT

Adrienne Flynn graduated from Manor College with a degree in Veterinary Technology in 1998 and was the first technician to be employed by our hospital. Originally from the Greater Philadelphia area, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family.


Caryn Reitenbaugh, CVT

After graduating from the Manor College Program of Veterinary Technology, Caryn Reitenbaugh began working at the hospital in 2010. She spent one of her internships vaccinating and treating animals on the Zuni Indian Reservation in New Mexico. She also worked for the City of Albuquerque Animal Services and volunteered at local animal shelters. Previously, she used her business and finance degrees in the corporate world, but her passion for working with animals led her to Spring House Animal Hospital. In her spare time, she enjoys the company of her family and friends and spending time with her two dogs, Ruger and Butters.


Tiffany Matchett, CVT

After graduating from Harcum College in May of 2011, Tiffany Matchett began working with us. Soon after, she passed her board exam and became a Certified Veterinary Technician. Aside from nursing sick animals back to health, her other passions at the hospital are dentistry and providing a clean environment. When not in the hospital, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, watching the Flyers®, and cuddling with her bulldog and cats.


Samantha Mitchell, CVT

Samantha Mitchell graduated from Harcum College in the fall of 2013 and became certified the following spring. Her biggest passion is veterinary medicine, and she loves every pet like it's her own. She has been in practice since 2010 and has spent time rotating through the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania and New Bolton Center's large animal hospital. In 2015, she began working at Spring House Animal Hospital. Samantha loves learning new things and the rewards of this job. She enjoys spending time with family and friends including her boyfriend, Matthew. She lives with her dogs, Bella Marie and Todd Murphy, and her cats, Socks, Boo, and Cocoa.


Taylor Oberholtzer

Taylor Oberholtzer

Taylor graduated from Harcum College in 2016 and has recently become a certified technician. For about two years she worked part time while going to school and has since become a full time member of the Spring House Animal Hospital team. Taylor has always had a passion for all animals and enjoys helping and caring for the animals that come into the hospital. Her favorite part about her job is being able to see the difference that she and her coworkers are able to make for their patients. If Taylor is not at work, she is most likely at her barn with her horse, Razz, or enjoying some time with her friends, family, and dog, Nikki!


Kylie Engle CVT

Kylie graduated from Manor College in the fall of 2014 and got certified the following spring. She has been working at SHAH since 2015. She loves dentistry, supporting animals through their recovery, and is interested in rehabilitation. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and spending time with friends and family.
